PRODUCTIVITY COMMISSION REPORT ON THE REVIEW OF THE DISABILITY DISCRIMINATION ACT 1992
The Australian Government welcomes the release of the Productivity Commission’s final inquiry report on the Review of the Disability Discrimination Act 1992.
The Disability Discrimination Act has been in operation more than 10 years.
There have been many significant achievements during those 10 years which have assisted people with disabilities to participate fully in community life.
However, as the Productivity Commission’s comprehensive report shows, there is still more to be done.
It is timely that some aspects of the operation of the Act be reviewed to ensure it is working effectively for people with disabilities, without imposing undue burdens on business and industry.
The Government is working through each of the Commission’s recommendations to provide a considered response in due course.
The report raises complex issues which need thorough consideration. However, the Government is pleased to release it at this time to the public as each recommendation will be of interest to industry, the disability sector and the community in general.
Copies may be downloaded from the Productivity Commission’s website at www.pc.gov.au.
